From Reimagining to Managing a New Way of Working
The International Facilities Management Association (IFMA) publishes its Facility Management Journal to offer practical takeaways and globally applicable best practices to help optimize facilities. The September/October issue includes an article co-authored by three IFMA Board Members, Colliers’ Vice President of Workplace Advisory, Kate North, as well as Lorri Rowlandson from BGIS’ Strategy and Innovation, and Colette Temmink, Eden’s President of Property Services.
“As a professional body, we have the unique opportunity and responsibility to help co-create and shape this new way of working, which will be positive for the organization, teams, individuals and the environment. As we approach the threshold of creating this new way of working for the organizations we serve, the FM’s role has never been so important,” affirms North, who also serves as the Global Chair of the Workplace Evolutionaries.
The article explores the following:
- COVID-19 is an accelerator for change and offers organizations an opportunity to reimagine how they work and examine various scenarios including the hybrid workplace.
- The development of a new workplace strategy mandates an integrated approach of FM, HR, IT and Risk Management all working together to co-create the post-COVID-19 employee experience, deliver and evolve it.
- New skills for FM and CRE will be required to support the strategic shift, which include the digitization of the experience.
The article references the “Work from Home Experience Survey” sponsored by IFMA’s Workplace Evolutionaries (WE) and conducted by Global Workplace Analytics and Iometrics. It also highlights how Colliers aligns its findings with these preferences.
